Signed by the editor, Joseph Haslewood, to the recto of the front free endpaper, "To George Allen ESQ M.A. From the Editor, 13 Feb 1818".

Richard Brathwaits humorous poem in Latin and English, recording a pilgrimage throughout England. This work contains amusing topographical information and persistent glee throughout, as Barnabee travels at a time when taverns boasted that customers could be drunk for 1d, dead drunk for 2d, with clean straw provided.

George Allen was an English barrister and politican.


CONDITION

In the original quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light marks to the boards and spine. Front joint and hinge are strained. Light rubbing to the boards and to the spine label. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Spine label is age-toned. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Prior owners ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, and to the recto of the front free. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Front endpaper to the frontispiece are detached but present.
